Trevor and I
9/14/02
We’re here, at fabulous Hangtown - personally, one of my
favorite tracks! It has great jumps; big doubles, steep tabletops
and my all time favorite step up. Hangtown is in Prairie City State
Vehicular Recreation Area. It is a national track, too, which means
pros race there. But today, the big deal is my race against Trevor.
This weekend at the races there was this kid, I had seen him once
before and he smoked me. Trevor Allred was his name. He was fast
in practice, but I could keep pace with him. Soon he'd be my friend
from hanging out at the races.
In a lot of the races, you end up trying to beat a friend who is
also your biggest competitor. In the first moto of my 65 novice
class, I was on the starting gate. I was revving up my engine when
the gate dropped. My start was not the greatest. Trevors was. He
was in first. There were probably 8 people in between us and I passed
all of them before the first lap was over and caught Trevor. Then,
Trevor and I battled until the end of moto, but I wasn’t able
to pass him and he won.
The next moto, I got a better start and was ahead of Trevor, but
a little while after he put a great pass on me. I was right behind
him until I fell and two riders passed me. They got a good 200ft
ahead of me. When I got up I was mad, therefore I was riding fast,
very fast. I passed the first rider over a very fun step up. The
next rider I past in the last turn. There was one more lap and I
left the two people I just passed. By the end of the race, I had
5 turns on them. I ended up 2nd overall, and Trevor got 1st, He
earned it.
Not all races are good races (unless you’re Ricky Carmichael).
In the 80 race I fell and could not get my bike up. So two older
kids helped me get up my bike and overall I don’t know what
I got, but my rollercoaster ride was over.
