To be a great motocross rider, you have to ride
with good form and ride fast. You can’t just ride all the
time and not think about your habits, good and bad, and expect to
be a successful motocrosser. To be successful, you have to practice
riding with good form, even if it means starting slow. By doing
everything accurately, it gives you the foundation to go as fast
as possible. If you continuously ride with bad habits, you will
never reach your potential. Eventually, you will have to change
the way you ride to get faster. So, here are some tips on riding
the “right” way.
Have you ever been at a track where there was a jump right out
of a corner, which you couldn’t quite get over? Here is one
way to get the extra boost you need.” Seat Bouncing”
is where you use your suspension as a spring, helping you get over
the jump you’re trying to clear.

How to Seat Bounce
- As you’re coming up to the jump, stay at the same set
up speed, but this time sit down on the back of your seat, compressing
your suspension.
- Once you are on the face of the jump, you will feel your suspension
compressing even more. Stay in the same sitting down position.
- Finally, as you’re coming off the lip, shift your weight
forward onto your legs and off your butt. This decompresses the
suspension, using your shock as a spring, and giving you the boost
you need to clear the jump. Make sure as you’re coming off
the lip you maintain the same speed. Only let off the gas once
your back tire is off the ground. If you let off too early the
“Seat Bounce” won’t work and your front wheel
will drop, most likely sending you over the bars.
